Some companies prefer to cut costs on hardware, software, and IT staff by using outside sources. Application hosting is one such method of cutting costs while maintaining a high level of expertise and support. With hosted applications, companies do not have to maintain a server environment on premises. Their servers and the applications the company uses are outsourced to a hosting company. The remote server does the same thing an in-house server would do, but at a greatly reduced cost.  There is no need for the company to maintain a server, upgrade its hardware from time to time, or purchase software and software upgrades. There is no staff to pay to run and maintain the server and software. All of this is provided by the hosting company for a nominal fee.  Companies can often save significant amounts of money because the hosting company is able to offer discounted pricing. Companies also benefit from not having to hire qualified staff and train them, because this is also handled at the hosting company. Any internal IT-related staff a company chooses to retain can be more focused on core business opportunities. Application hosting also makes software and data available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year across a wide range of platforms and devices. It provides technical support when needed and manages the rerouting of traffic when needed. It can work with project, calendar, or schedule planning, too.
