IoT is here today, and is expected to grow and expand, as the connectivity between devices will make people’s lives easier. Imagine you are on your way home from work. With IoT, you will be able to use your onboard touch screen in your car or your smartphone to: - Access your refrigerator to see what groceries to buy. - Turn on the oven. - Start the dishwasher. - Turn on the heat or A/C to your desired setting. - Turn on your computer and pull up your hosted virtual desktop, and more. ![Hosted Virtual Desktop](https://blog.cyberlinkasp.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Virtual-Desktops-3.jpg?width=499&height=333&name=Virtual-Desktops-3.jpg) The flexibility to automate household chores and optimize energy usage are only two of the numerous advantages with IoT. However, with any new technology, there are also several drawbacks and concerns. Among the top concerns are security and privacy. With more and more devices connected to together, personal and private information could be at more risk to hackers. Another concern is the compatibility between devices from different manufacturers. Ideally, one would hope the manufacturers would work together to agree upon a standard connectivity platform, but that is not likely. Just look at the video game market or streaming TV services. Each has their own platforms and compatibility requirements, and the same will probably be true with IoT devices. It will be interesting to see how the IoT develops over the next few years, and starts to make our lives easier and more efficient.
